How Mason Greenwood stunned Manchester United in training

Manchester United's coaches have been taken aback by Mason Greenwood's ability to use both feet and the extra analytical work he puts in at the training.

The 18-year-old forward is pushing for a regular spot in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, having scored 12 senior goals this season in a breakthrough campaign. He came off the bench in United's recent 1-1 draw with Tottenham to great effect and could start Wednesday night's contest with Sheffield United.

And United's Under-23s assistant coach, and former midfielder, Quinton Fortune has revealed why Solskjaer is the ideal manager for a special talent like Greenwood.

“Mason is fortunate he’s got Ole as a manager," Fortune told the official United website.

"Obviously there’s all the coaches he’s had through his youth-team career but he couldn’t ask for a better manager because Ole’s done it at the highest level.

“There’s not many players in world football that are able to go both ways like Mason does. Equally, left and right foot, he’s ridiculous.

“I thought he was left-footed and then he takes penalties with his right! And I’ve seen him take a free-kick with his right foot, his left foot.

“I’m like ‘what’s wrong with you!? Just pick one! Are you okay?’”

As well as his technical ability, Fortune also revealed United's coaches have been startled by Greenwood's willingness to learn and improve, even going out of his way to take on more analysis of his game.

"This is how amazing Mason is and why he’s a little bit different,” Fortune added.

“I’m walking through the building at the Aon Training Complex and there’s a computer room where the analyst team work.

“Mason was in there, looking at games and how he can do better. He’s on it. He’s just a natural. He’s an unbelievable finisher. He’s the real deal.”
