How many weeks have we been in lockdown in the UK?

Lockdown is all too familiar by now and it does feel like it has been going on forever.

And it is fair to say that the coronavirus pandemic has completely changed the world as we know it.

The measures announced by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson last month were completely unprecedented.

As we know all too well now, Mr Johnson ordered people to stay home and only leave the house in a few circumstances.

This only includes shopping for basic necessities; partaking in one form of exercise a day; for a medical need or travelling to work if it is absolutely necessary.

The Prime Minister made this announcement five weeks ago on Monday March 23.

This means we are now entering our sixth week of living under these strict measures.

But for how much longer?

This is the daily question being asked by the public however, there isn't much of an answer.

When Mr Johnson made the announcement last month, he said the measures would be reviewed in three weeks.

This took place on the week beginning April 13 and by April 16 we were told that lockdown had been extended pending another review in another three weeks time.

This will take place on or around May 7.

If the decision is to again extend the measures, another three weeks of lockdown will begin and the next review won't take place until the end of May.

By this point, it will be edging closer to the end of the recommended 12 weeks of shielding for those most at risk including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

This measure was announced shortly before lockdown, so when this will come to an end is still unclear.
