How many supermoons will there be in 2020?

This year, there will be SIX supermoons.

A supermoon is when our planet’s satellite is in its new or full state, and is at its closest to the Earth - 361,885 km or less. This point is called the perigee.

April 8, 2020, will present the closest full moon supermoon of 2020.

When will supermoons appear?

March 9, 2000: 222,081 miles (357,404 km)

April 8, 2020: 221,851 miles (357,035 km)

May 7, 2020: 224,429 miles (361,184 km)

September 17, 2000: 223,828 miles (360,216 km)

October 16, 2020: 221,797 miles (356,948 km)

November 15, 2020: 222,666 miles (358,347 km)

The closest full supermoon of the year will be on April, 8.

How to observe a supermoon

You can observe this phenomenon with the naked eye but as the moon will also shine a bit brighter, it's the perfect time if you wish to photograph it.
