How many subs can be used in the England vs Italy Euro 2020 final?

After a month of high drama and exciting action, Euro 2020 is set to come to an end on Sunday when England play Italy in the final at Wembley.

The 51st and final match of the tournament will see Gareth Southgate's squad try to make history by winning the European Championship for the first time, as they look to end 55 years of hurt since their 1966 World Cup triumph.

With both sides playing six games so far this tournament after a long season of club football, players' fitness is likely to be a concern after a compacted campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Substitutes could be crucial for both of Sunday's finalists, whether it's to turn the game around, preserve their advantage, break the deadlock or just to bring a fresh pair of legs onto the field.

Earlier this year, UEFA announced that five substitutions can be made during the 90 minutes.

UEFA’s Executive Committee agreed in March to adjust the current rules in line with the temporary amendment introduced to Law 3 of the IFAB Laws of the Game.

In an official statement, UEFA said: "As the reasons for the five-substitutions rule remain valid against the background of national and international football calendars affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and given that the rule is already in place for the World Cup qualification matches that will run from March 2021 to March 2022, it was decided to extend the amendment to UEFA EURO 2020 in June/July 2021, the UEFA Nations League finals in October 2021 and the UEFA Nations League relegation play-outs in March 2022.”

Side gets three opportunities to make subs, plus the half-time break.

In the event of extra-time, sides are permitted a sixth sub.
