How many points Chelsea need to win top-four race against Man United as Leicester lose

Chelsea 's hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League this season have been given a massive boost.

This is after London rivals Tottenham Hotspur's convincing win over Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

It was just last week when it appeared that the Blues had lost control in the race to qualify for next season's Champions League as they slumped to a disappointing 3-0 loss away at Sheffield United.

However, the Foxes were beaten by Bournemouth the following day and Manchester United could only draw 2-2 at home to Southampton on Monday night, thus keeping Lampard's side in pole position.

Manchester City's two-year ban from the Champions League has successfully been appealed, so fifth-place will no longer come with a spot Europe's top tier competition next season.

As a result, the battle for a top-four finish is set to heat up with two games of the season left to play for some.

Chelsea have now amassed 63 points after 36 games after their victory over Norwich City on Tuesday night which also ensured the Blues confirmed their place as London's best team for the 2019/20 campaign.

Leicester City's collapse in form since the turn of the year means they are fourth, ahead of United on goal difference on 62 points and having played a game more.

So what does this all mean for Chelsea, Lampard, and the top-four battle?

Well, the maximum number of points United can get is 68, for Leicester it is now 65 after losing to Spurs - and the pair meet on the final day of the season which could benefit the Blues.

Lampard's side also have two games left in their season, and the Blues could achieve a maximum of 69 points by the end of the campaign.

As a result, 66 points will be enough to seal yet another top-four finish.

Two straight wins to end the season would be the dream scenario to get third. However, with games against Liverpool and Wolves to come as well as the Leicester vs Man United clash, 63 points could be enough for a top-four finish.

With that said, one win from two will be enough.

Chelsea's remaining Premier League fixtures

Liverpool (a) July 22

Wolves (h) July 26
