How many people in my area have Covid-19 as one county sees staggering one in 35 infected

Several areas have seen a surge in new coronavirus infections over the last two weeks, with one county seeing a whopping one in 35 people testing positive.

Ireland is currently battling a devastating third wave of Covid-19 as cases continue to spike across the country.

One of the key measures used by health officials is the incidence rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population over the last 14 days.

And the latest figures released by the Department of Health last night show that Monaghan is the hardest-hit area in the country with a staggering one in 35 people testing positive for coronavirus over the previous fortnight.

There has also been a surge in new infections in Co Louth, which has seen one in 44 people contract the virus, while in Waterford the figure stands at one in 49.

More than half of all counties have seen at least one in 100 people test positive over the last 14 days.
