How many OL will the Dolphins leave the 2020 NFL Draft with?

The Miami Dolphins’ offensive line has successfully secured two starters for their 2020 season. By signing Ted Karras and Ereck Flowers in free agency, the Dolphins have alleviated the pressing need to scramble for offensive linemen in the 2020 NFL Draft. Let’s not get it twisted, though — Miami will need to walk away from this year’s draft with significant resources spent on the offensive line.

What would that look like in a perfect world?

Ideally, the Dolphins leave with two offensive tackles and at least one interior offensive lineman. The silver lining for Miami is that with their free agent signings, Jesse Davis and Michael Deiter, the team should have ample flexibility to ensure they have the necessary depth in the middle to hold up as attrition settles in throughout the course of the 2020 season. But the offensive tackle position is quite barren as things currently stand. With a ton of depth in this year’s class, Miami will be well positioned to target and acquire multiple tackles. Look for Miami to gun for one of the “Big Four”: Georgia’s Andrew Thomas, Alabama’s Jedrick Wills, Louisville’s Mekhi Becton and Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs.

If the team falls short there, Houston’s Josh Jones is a viable backup plan in the first round — but then the Dolphins will need to press hard for a second option, preferably a Day 2 target who can help push both Jones and Jesse Davis as the team’s starters. There’s no shortage of options between USC’s Austin Jackson, LSU’s Saahdiq Charles, St. John’s Ben Bartch, TCU’s Lucas Niang and others.

While Miami’s offensive line reclamation is going to need time to gel with so many new parts, there’s little question the team would be thrilled to exit this offseason with five new bodies along the line to help make sure the unit is upgrades as much as possible.
