On Sunday night (well, Monday morning) Game of Thrones aired its last ever episodes, after eight years.
In just over 70 episodes the story of love, power, corruption and family in Westeros played out and finally ended. Reaction seems to suggest it didn't finish exactly how everyone wanted but not many TV shows do.
The latter seasons of the TV show changed tone drastically as the source material was depleted as George RR Martin is still yet to finish his 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series of books.
The first book in the series, titled A Game of Thrones was released way back in 1996 and the latest novel A Dance with Dragons came out back in July 2011.
The Game of Thrones finale is currently its worst rated episode ever on IMDB
The final two books The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring are still forthcoming which has hampered the show after season four.

George RR Martin has previously said he will set a release date for The Winds of Winter once he is closed to finishing it. He confirmed this again on Sunday, not long before the finale aired.
On his website he wrote: "I am back home again now, and back once more in Westeros, working on WINDS… which, let me add once more, has NOT been finished and hidden away for years. (sigh) "

This is referring to the rumour that TWOW is actually finished and he signed a contract that states it would not be made public until after the show finished.
So, the waiting game continues.
