How many fans will be at Wembley for England vs Italy Euro 2020 final?

The stage is set and England are now putting in the preparations for their first-ever European Championships final.

Harry Kane settled the scores against Denmark in the last-four as the whole country was gripped by iconic scenes which unfolded beneath the famous arch at Wembley.

Given the struggles brought about by the global Covid-19 pandemic and England's long wait to reach the big time, once again, who could have blamed those ecstatic fans in attendance?

It's back to the same venue on Sunday night for the showpiece against Italy, too.

As was the case for the preceding semi-final showdown between Spain and Italy, around 60,000 supporters were allowed to attend the England vs Denmark clash.

Having emerged from the group unscathed, Gareth Southgate and his squad went through the gears on their way to Euro 2020 knock-out victories over Germany and then Ukraine.

Things were a little more tense last night, though, as Kane fired home at the second attempt after his penalty kick was saved by Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who stood loud and proud between the posts in what proved to be a losing cause for the Danes.

As you would expect, tickets for the showpiece are like gold dust right now - with reports of astronomical money being exchanged on the 'black market' to snap up a view at Wembley.

For most of us, a front-row seat from the comfort of our own homes, or the pub, seems like the best bet!

There will, though, be around 60,000 lucky people who get to witness the action first-hand, including England supporters and former players in addition to UEFA delegates and guests of those involved in the upper echelons of the game.

With restrictions across the UK continuing to ease in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been some hope that Wembley will be increased to full capacity on Sunday night.

But as things stand, the following guidelines from Gov.uk continue to apply.

Published on June 22 ahead of the final stages, a statement from Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden read: "We are thrilled that more fans will now be able to walk through the Wembley turnstiles and enjoy the finals of Euro 2020.

"As we continue to make progress on our roadmap out of lockdown, keeping the public safe remains top priority.

"We have worked extremely closely with UEFA and the FA to ensure rigorous and tight public health measures are in place, while allowing more fans to see the action live.

"The finals promise to be an unforgettable moment in our national recovery from the pandemic."

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin added: "This tournament has been a beacon of hope to reassure people we are returning to a more normal way of life and this is a further step along that road. I am grateful to the Prime Minister and the UK Government for their hard work in finalising these arrangements with us, to make the tournament's final stages a great success in Wembley."
