How many episodes of Trigger Point are there? ITV's new thriller starring Vicky McClure grips fans

After bucket loads of hype, Trigger Point finally launched on ITV on Sunday night, with its first episode having an explosive ending.

And given that Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio and its star Vicky McClure are both involved, viewers expectations for the new thriller were understandably very high.

A plot teaser for Trigger Point read: "When a terrorist campaign threatens the capital over the summer, the Expos are at the forefront of urgent efforts to find out who is behind the bombings before fatalities escalate."

Adverts in the lead up to Trigger Point's debut included a countdown clock, ticking down the minutes and seconds to the start of episode one, which was preceded by a warning from an ITV announcer over what to expect.

There are SIX episodes in Trigger Point. And, ahead of its first episode, lead actress Vicky tweeted: "Strap yaselfs in for a bumpy ride over the next 6 weeks! I’m beyond proud of the work everyone put into the show and can’t wait to see everyone’s efforts played out Sunday nights 9pm @ITV starting TONIGHT!"

Unlike other recent ITV dramas like Anne and the new series of The Bay, Trigger Point won't be available to binge watch on ITV Hub.

Instead, just like Line of Duty on the BBC, viewers will have to wait a week to find out what happens.

A synopsis for the second episode reads: "During a blistering heatwave, London is still reeling from the events at Westhaven. Inter-community tensions rise as the Far-Right group English Flag and their leader Agatha Jack take to the streets to blame Islamists for the attack.

"The government raises the terror threat to critical, and across the capital people are on edge, seeing potential devices everywhere.

"At New Scotland Yard, Counter Terrorism detectives are under increasing pressure to find those responsible for the attack before the situation spirals out of control."
