How many episodes of Ridley are there? Adrian Dunbar drama big draw for ITV viewers

After it launched to millions last week, viewers are looking forward to the third episode of new ITV drama Ridley on Sunday night, which is set to air amidst extensive schedule changes due to coverage of The Queen's death and the events that have followed.

Adrian is of course known to legions of Line of Duty fans as AC-12's head honcho Ted Hastings and he's sticking with crime for his new primetime role. Adrian's new on screen alias has been nudged out of the job he loves after 25 years of service, before being called in by his replacement Carol to be a police consultant on a complex and compelling murder case, with the investigation taking a dark and unexpected turn.

Turning to her old mentor for support, Carol is keen to access Ridley’s unique insight into crime-solving which has served them so well in the past.

The series has been inspired by the experiences of real-life retired detectives who have re-joined their forces to offer much needed assistance and talking about his new role, Adrian said he hadn't ever headed into production "with more excitement and enthusiasm."

Ridley was announced by ITV last summer, with filming taking place in the autumn. Its first episode went out on the chanel on Sunday, August 28, with the second following on September 4 and seeing Carol calling in Ridley to assist with the case when the body of a young woman is found buried in a shallow grave on a bleak Pennine moorland.

There are FOUR episodes of Ridley in total. Much like Vera, another Sunday night hit for ITV, each will last two hours, running between 8 and 10pm each Sunday.

A synopsis for the fourth and final episode, called The Numbered Days and airing on Sunday, September 18, reads: "Alex and Carol are called out to look into the death of a man who seemingly fell from his balcony. During the investigation, the retired detective makes a shocking discovery that links the current case with the arson attack that killed his family."
