Millions of viewers were gripped on Monday night as Innocent returned for a second series.
The ITV drama made its debut back in 2018 with the plot of Innocent series one centered on David Collins who, after being wrongly jailed for the murder of his wife, was released from prison on a legal technicality.
Following his release, he attempted to unearth the real culprit which, much to his dismay, ended up being his brother Phil.
After a three year hiatus, Innocent series 2 launched this week with a completely stand alone story which sees Katherine Kelly take the leading role as Sally Wright, a Keswick-based teacher who, after being accused of having an affair with her pupil Matty Taylor, was then jailed for his murder.
The start of episode 1 saw Sally found not guilty at a re-trial after five years behind bars, with her intent on getting her career and reputation back after it was left in tatters.
She also had to deal with her husband moving on with another woman and people in the community being very vocal with their opinions on her.
How many episodes of Innocent are there?
There are FOUR episodes of Innocent in total, with them airing over consecutive nights on May 17. 18, 19 and 20.
The last time ITV chose that approach with a drama was with Viewpoint, which aired four nights in a row before its final episode was pulled with hours to go after allegations against main star Noel Clarke.
A teaser for episode 3 of Innocent reads: ""As Sally and Sam grow closer, the police investigation turns to Gary Walker, but what is his connection? Meanwhile, Bethany's link to Matthew comes to light as Karen admits a damning secret."
And then a preview for the fourth and final part on Thursday teases: "With Karen still in police custody, Bethany takes matters into her own hands - making a crucial discovery and forcing a confession.
"Braithwaite and his team continue their search for more evidence. Sam and Sally come to a decision."
