How many care homes in your area have had coronavirus outbreaks

Almost two in five care homes in Bristol have reported outbreaks of coronavirus.

There have been 42 Covid-19 outbreaks in the city's care homes between March 9 and May 10.

That means 38 per cent of the 111 care homes in the area have had cases.

In the week up to May 10, there was only one new case in Bristol.

That was down from five reported the week before, and the peak of 11 reports came in the week ending April 12.

We reported on May 17 that seven residents of Carlton Mansions care home in Clifton – around a third of the residents – have died with coronavirus symptoms.

In North Somerset, there have been 26 reports in care homes.

Some 26 per cent of care homes in that district have reported cases.

And in South Gloucestershire, there have been 36 outbreaks, across 46 per cent of care homes.

Across England, a total of 5,546 outbreaks have been reported in care homes.

This data comes from reports to Public Health England (PHE) of infectious disease outbreaks in residential and nursing homes.

An individual care home will only be included in the dataset once. If a care home has reported more than one outbreak, only the first is included in the dataset.

It is not possible to know from the data if the outbreaks are ongoing.

Care homes in the North East appear to have been hardest hit by Covid-19 – significantly more so than the South West.

Nearly half (48 per cent) of care homes in the North East have reported an outbreak, compared to 26 per cent in the South West.
