How many calories are in your Christmas alcohol? Wine, Baileys, eggnog and more

Almost two thirds of alcohol consumption takes place in the home, but how many calories are in that glass of chardonnay?

DrinkAware’s recent stats show that 61% of us host our drinking sessions at home, 21% of us enjoy drinks at home with our partner and 15% of us drink alone.

If you plan on throwing out the diet completely for Christmas you may be shocked to hear of the hidden calories in your favourite tipple.

Eggnog

This indulgent Christmas bevvy contains a whopping 350 calories mainly due to the egg, milk and sugar.

Glass of wine

If you’re watching your weight, switch your favourite glass of wine for bubbles instead.

A glass of white or red can contain approximately 220 calories, whilst a glass of prosecco or champagne has just 85 calories.

Mulled Wine

The average glass of this festive Christmas staple will set you back 210 calories.

If you’re making it at home add a sweetner like stevia instead of processed sugar to cut the calories.

Baileys

Creamy and luxurious, nothing tastes like Christmas quite like a Baileys, but a glass of the creamy stuff can be around 164 calories.

Swap it for 50 mls of Baileys Almande made from almonds for a vegan alternative and you’ll come in at almost half the calories at a mere 76.
