How Manchester United should line up vs Inter Milan

Manchester United will crank their pre-season preparations up a notch when they face Inter Milan in Singapore on Saturday.

The Reds scored six goals and conceded none in their games against Perth Glory and Leeds United in Australia but Inter represent a significant step up in opposition for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

United look set to have a full compliment of players to choose from, bar the injured Romelu Lukaku, for the game against Inter - and our reporters have come up with suggestions for how Solskjaer should set his side up against the Nerazzurri.

David de Gea needs a game. If Luke Shaw is match-fit he should come in for Marcos Rojo and Solskjaer should trial what should be his best back five - as things stand.

Inter will be strikerless, so it would be counter-productive to switch to a midfield three, especially when Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay have performed well.

The front four, even in an easy pre-season, picks itself after the Australian leg of the tour.

It is set to be the toughest test this weekend as United face a side who possess genuine aspirations in the Champions League next season.

Solskjaer will be keen to establish an idea of his best XI and if possible it should feature at some stage this weekend.

De Gea is due minutes if fit, while a back four of Wan-Bissaka, Smalling, Lindelof and Shaw needs airing ahead of the new season.

Pogba has been the best player during pre-season, while McTominay and Mata probably offer the best balance around him.

Greenwood and James know a permanent place in the starting XI is theirs to lose ahead of the opening league match against Chelsea, while Rashford has to face better opposition if he is to prove he has what it takes to be the new No. 9.

Solskjaer confirmed on Friday that David de Gea is fit and he needs minutes under his belt after an under-par 2018-19 campaign.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof encouraged against Leeds and will likely keep their places. Eric Bailly was his usual erratic self and should perhaps be replaced by the more dependable Chris Smalling. Marcos Rojo was surprisingly decent in the 4-0 win but Luke Shaw will get the nod if he has overcome his minor hamstring problem.

Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba should retain their places at the base of United's midfield.

Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood were promising against Leeds, while Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong, the latter in particular, deserve starts after impressing off the bench.
