How Manchester United should line-up vs Fulham in Premier League fixture

Manchester United will be hoping to bring the curtain down on a successful Premier League campaign with a win when they take on Fulham on the final day of the season at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United bagged themselves a top four finish and clinched Champions League qualification for next season with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Chelsea on Thursday evening. Despite an uncharacteristic defensive showing in the first half, goals either side of the half-time interval from Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford got the job done without too much fuss.

It means the pressure will be off when Fulham visit M16, though the Reds do still need a win to guarantee themselves a third-placed finish ahead of Newcastle United. Two points currently separate the teams and Newcastle boast a superior goal difference.

But with the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley now less than a week away, United boss Erik ten Hag could make the decision to rotate his pack and save some of his senior figures for the showpiece event in the capital.

Our writers have had their say on how United should line-up against Fulham...

Samuel Luckhurst

As good as it would be for United to finish above Newcastle, they have to rotate ahead of the FA Cup final. Raphael Varane has to be rested and there might as well be changes at full-back, especially given Luke Shaw's injury.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen should not be starting, as they shouldn't have been against Reading in the FA Cup back in January. Today is the only day to reunite Scott McTominay and Fred.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho could do with starts and Jadon Sancho has to be under consideration to line up on the right against City, so it would be logical to start him there again. Fernandes can have an hour.

Tyrone Marshall

Injuries are starting to bite United ahead of the FA Cup final so they have to be cautious on the final day of the season. That means a rest for Varane, for certain, given how he can pick up knocks from nowhere. Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof and Malacia can start at the back.

In midfield Casemiro and Eriksen are also deserving of a rest. McTominay needs a start after returning from injury and I think there's a good chance Fred starts the cup final, so getting him up to speed this week will make a lot of sense. Fernandes loves playing, is in good form and should go again.

Garnacho has also earned a start after three lively cameos off the bench. It would get more minutes in his legs ahead of a role as an impact sub at Wembley. Sancho looked good on the right on Thursday so can start there in the absence of Antony and Rashford can start through the middle. I'd give him an hour before bringing Weghorst on.

George Smith

With a top four finish in the bag and the FA Cup final now only six days away, Ten Hag must be tempted to make changes. The Reds have experienced a gruelling schedule for much of the season and this feels like an ideal opportunity for the manager to make some alterations.

The likes of Wan-Bissaka, Varane and Shaw would all benefit from a breather ahead of the clash with City, meaning Dalot, Maguire and Malacia all ought to come in. The latter stepped off the bench at half-time on Thursday to replace Shaw.

Casemiro should be protected at all-costs for the tussle with City, meaning it would make sense for McTominay to slot into the defensive-midfield berth. Eriksen, though, could keep his place.

In attack, Ten Hag may be tempted to trial Fernandes on the right-wing again ahead of the clash with City following Antony's injury blow, but he is another player that would almost certainly benefit from a rare breather. Weghorst could come into make his final start for the club and Garnacho deserves a starting berth after three successive appearances from the bench.
