How Manchester United's summer spending compares to other Premier League clubs

It's been a summer of change at Manchester United.

Not only did a new manager walk through the door in the shape of Erik ten Hag, but six new faces arrived at Old Trafford in a mini-revamp.

Two of those were only confirmed on transfer deadline day as the club joined many of their Premier League peers in getting their business done late in the day. The arrival of Ajax winger Antony for a fee of £85million was the marquee signing for United, supplemented by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, while earlier in the window saw the arrivals of defenders Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez and midfield duo Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.

According to respected industry website Transfermarkt, United forked out a total of £214million. Figures show that only one top flight rival outspent them — Chelsea.

The Blues splashed out a whopping £253million on eight new arrivals including Wesley Fofana from Leicester, Brighton's Marc Cucurella and Raheem Sterling from Man City. London pair West Ham and Spurs were third and fourth on the list respectively, with each spending upwards of £150million.

Almost half the clubs in the division spent upwards of £100million, with nine teams exceeding this amount. The thriftiest spenders by far have been Leicester City who signed just two players, with only one — Wout Faes at £15.3m — costing a transfer fee.

The window saw a record-breaking amount of money spent by the 20 clubs with more than £2billion dished out.
