How Manchester United linked Erling Haaland models himself on Cristiano Ronaldo

You cannot get Erling Braut Haaland out of the headlines right now.

If he's not being touted for a transfer to Manchester United , he's talking openly about his admiration for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, or scoring an equalising goal to stun Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League.

Amid United's striking crisis at the moment, those links are only going to continue. And many United fans may be excited to hear about how Haaland's two footballing idols are both former Stretford End heroes too.

His father, Alfie Inge Haaland who played for United's rivals Man City and Leeds, revealed to ESPN that Erling is "more talented" than he was and revealed how Ronaldo was inspiring the young striker.

"He was told a story by Patrice Evra about a lunch he had with Ronaldo and Cristiano had fish, nothing else," said Alfie.

"Erling now tries to do the same things because Ronaldo is 34 and still at the top of the game, so it shows the value of doing the right things."

On Ibrahimovic, Haaland junior revealed himself how much he admires the former United striker.

"I had a lot of role models and I have seen many good players, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the biggest one for me — how he became so good, the [path] he took, the way he plays," he told his club, RB Salzburg's official website.

"Also, he is Scandinavian, so someone has to take over from him."

Haaland struck at Anfield to level the scores between Salzburg and Liverpool at 3-3 on Wednesday night, though Mo Salah had the final say as Jurgen Klopp's side won 4-3.
