How Manchester United legend Eric Cantona provided Niall Quinn's funniest moment at Sunderland

Former Sunderland great Niall Quinn has revealed his funniest moment during his time at the Stadium of Light.

The former Republic of Ireland forward spent just over six seasons on Wearside and cemented himself as a club legend.

But while he will remembered for his achievements on the pitch, it was comedy away from the pitch that was the topic of conversation when Quinn caught up with former team-mate Matt Piper on his podcast 'Positive Vibes'.

And when he was asked about his funniest moment during his spell on Wearside, Quinn recounted Eric Cantona's famous goal against the Black Cats, and the eye-catching reaction of the club's kitman.

"The funniest moment was kind of on the pitch and kind of off it," Quinn explained.

"I was substituted at Old Trafford and with about 15 minutes to go Eric Cantona picked the ball up and waltzed past about three of our players, chipped our goalkeeper Lionel Perez and famously turned around to take in the adulation from the Old Trafford faithful, put his collar up with that pose.

"When he scored that goal Jonny Cooke, our kitman, is a Man United fan born and bred. As soon as he scored the goal, Cookey jumps up off the bench, sticks his hand in the air and everybody looked at him.

"He turned around and went 'offside ref!'.

"Everybody was giggling but Peter Reid looked like he wanted to kill him. He did very well to hang on to his job."
