How Manchester United fans reacted to Chris Smalling's first goal for Roma

Manchester United loanee Chris Smalling continued his fine start to life in Italy with his first goal for Roma on Wednesday.

After taking the lead at Udinese through Nicolo Zaniolo, Smalling's central defensive partner Federico Fazio was sent off. But after Smalling fired in at the back post from a corner, Justin Kluivert and Aleksandr Kolarov ensured Roma remained in the top four in Serie A.

Smalling's goal came at the same time as United conceded an equaliser to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup as Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo backed off Michy Batshuayi who fired in from 25 yards.

United man Smalling has not been on the losing side for Roma since his debut, helping his loan side to a seven game unbeaten run. He was involved in controversy last week in the Champions League as he conceded a 90th minute penalty against Borussia Monchengladbach for handball despite the ball clearly hitting his face.

Predictably, United fans were pleased to see Smalling do well on loan, and took to Twitter to joke about recalling the 29-year-old following his goal.
