How Manchester United could line up against Newcastle United

Newcastle United return to Premier League action after the international break with a mouth-watering showdown against Manchester United.

The Magpies take on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men at St James' Park on Saturday, October 17.

Newcastle went into the break with a 3-1 home win over Burnley, which left them ninth in the table with seven points from their opening four league fixtures.

The Red Devils are languishing down in 16th - with three points from three games - following their 6-1 humbling by Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Sunday.

That result sent shockwaves around United and raised a number of questions about their prospects this season.

So, how will they line up at Newcastle?

Since the Spurs thrashing, United have signed striker Edinson Cavani and defender Alex Telles.

Solskjaer may be tempted to put them both straight into the side.

He could well ring the changes - and will certainly have to make at least one, with striker Anthony Martial starting a three-match ban following his red card against Tottenham.

Cavani could replace Martial up front, with Luke Shaw's position at left-back under threat from Telles.

Summer signing Donny van de Beek must surely also come into contention, with Paul Pogba seemingly struggling for fitness.

But Newcastle will not have to worry about facing England star Jadon Sancho after Man United failed in their bid to sign him from Borussia Dortmund before the transfer window closed.

Possible Man United team to face Newcastle: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Bailly, Telles, Matic, van de Beek, Fernandes, Rashford, Greenwood, Cavani.
