How Manchester City can stop Arsenal signing transfer target Gabriel Magalhaes

Arsenal are still waiting to discover if they have won the race for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes, with Napoli refusing to end their pursuit of him.

Gabriel is attracting plenty of interest this summer after impressing in Ligue 1 last season and he is ready to leave France for a new challenge.

Arsenal and Napoli are at the front of the queue for the Brazilian, with both sides informing Lille they are ready to meet their asking price of around £22million.

Napoli view Gabriel as the ideal replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly, who is again being linked with a big move away this summer.

Manchester City are interested in signing Koulibaly and his sale would significantly bolster Napoli’s budget as they try to bring in Gabriel.

Gabriel, as of Wednesday morning, was still considering his options and both Arsenal and Napoli believe they can lure the centre-back to their respective clubs.

Arsenal are keen to strengthen their defence this summer and have already bolstered it by William Saliba returning from his loan at Saint-Etienne.

Gabriel has been identified as another possible addition and head coach Mikel Arteta is keen to make him part of his squad.
