How Man Utd fans reacted after David de Gea made another blunder

Manchester United fans stood by under-pressure goalkeeper David de Gea despite the Spaniard making another high-profile blunder on Sunday.

The Red Devils went head-to-head with Chelsea at Old Trafford and finished the first half on a disappointing note after the stopper gifted their rivals an equaliser.

Juan Mata had opened the scoring in the Premier League encounter, latching on to the loose ball to fire home a deserved goal for the hosts.

But then, out of nowhere, the Blues were somehow level when United's Spanish stopper added to his list of howlers this season.

The goalkeeper spilled Antonio Rudiger's shot from distance into the path of Marcos Alonso, who found the net via the right-hand post.

United fans, however, were heard chanting his name as the players returned to the pitch for the second half, no doubt a show of support for the under-fire goalkeeper.

In the build-up to this match, there were calls for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to drop De Dea after his two mistakes led to goals in the 2-0 defeat by rivals Manchester City last Wednesday.

That came on the back of earlier gaffes against Arsenal , Wolves , Barcelona and Everton , with the uncertainty over De Gea's future cited as a reason for his loss of focus and form.

But ahead of United's top-four clash with Chelsea, boss Solskjaer said he had not considered dropping De Gea - but warned the 28-year-old he must put the uncertainty over his future out of his mind for the final three games of the season.

Asked if he had considered dropping De Gea, Solskjaer said: "No. Not at all, because I trust David and he's, for me, been the best player Unietd have had last six or seven years, absolutely outstanding.

"Going through touch patches is part of a footballer's career and David will be fine."
