How Man City manager Pep Guardiola can end Premier League jinx against Crystal Palace

Manchester City welcome Crystal Palace to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday looking to keep the pressure on Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Jurgen Klopp's side face Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, the only team to take points from the league leaders this season.

City will be looking to avoid a repeat of last season when the Eagles pulled off a shock victory with goals from Jeffrey Schlupp, Andros Townsend and Luka Milivojevic.

The Blues have won all their last four fixtures in all competitions but Pep Guardiola will need to end a Premier League jinx to extend their recent winning run.

Guardiola celebrates his 49th birthday on Saturday which could be bad news for City.

None of the previous four City managers to take charge of a game on their birthday have managed to leave with three points.

Brian Horton's side drew with Southampton in 1995, Joe Royle was defeated by Everton in 2001, while Mark Hughes' men were held to a goalless draw by Birmingham in 2009.

Remarkably, Roberto Mancini had two opportunities to break the birthday hoodoo in 2011 and 2012 but couldn't celebrate the occasion with a Premier League victory - drawing against Stoke and Liverpool.

Nevertheless, Guardiola has one statistic on his side heading into the weekend's game.

The Catalan has never lost consecutive home league games against the same opponent during his time in charge of the Blues.

City fans will hope birthday history doesn't repeat itself.
