How Man City found out about Mikel Arteta move to Arsenal amid 'angry' exit

Manchester City have reportedly been left displeased with the way Arsenal conducted their business in regards to acquiring Mikel Arteta, according to the Manchester Evening News.

It became clear this week that Arteta was destined to return to the Emirates but the Spaniard's move away from City is something which had threatened to become a saga.

City have claimed that Arteta was approached directly and not through the club, something which has led to a great deal of frustration in Manchester.

Arsenal are said to have paid a seven-figure to enable them to sign the 37-year-old to a deal which will keep him at the Emirates until the summer of 2023.

It's believed, however, that 'no words' were exchanged between the bosses of both clubs when the two sides met last Sunday for a game that City won 3-0 in the capital.

City's frustrations reportedly hit a new level on Wednesday when there were suggestions that Arteta was going to be announced within 48 hours.

A club source told the MEN at the time: "It’s surprising to hear that plans are being made by Arsenal to unveil our coach as their head coach on Friday on the basis that no contact has been made by the club to discuss this matter."

Once City had moved beyond their feelings of anger over the situation and the deal had been agreed, the Blues still expected Arsenal to touch base on when the formal announcement was going to be made.

Instead, they 'found out from the news breaking on TV screens around City's training ground to leave them feeling distinctly unimpressed with the Gunners'.
