How long will Ireland's heatwave last? Met Eireann's stunning update on hottest day of the year

Met Eireann are forecasting no end in sight for Ireland's heatwave with temperatures well into the twenties for the next week.

Today is already forecast to be the hottest day of the year at 28C and that heat will stick around right up until next weekend according to the latest forecasts.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "High pressure bringing predominantly dry, very warm and mostly sunny weather for much of next week. Remaining very warm and humid at night also."

Temperatures are expected to surpass 25C every day until next Friday.

And the following week is looking just as positive, the current forecast reads: "Late July will be slightly drier than normal in all areas, although there will be showers at times. It will be a little warmer than average, with maximum temperatures in the high teens or low twenties. Winds will generally be light."

Those hoping to enjoy more sun on Sunday are also in for a treat with a repeat of today's conditions expected.

Met Eireann state: "Sunday, will be dry with good spells of sunshine for most. However, there will be a little more cloud about than Saturday bringing the chance of a very isolated thundery shower during the evening over the southern half of the country.

"Very warm with highs of 23 to 27 degrees generally, but cooler in the northwest and along eastern coasts with highs there of 18 to 22 degrees in a light variable breeze with some sea breezes developing also."
