How long the average Londoner spends cleaning their home each week

London is a city of “quick fix tidiers” who spend just two hours a week cleaning their homes.

A Currys PC World study found that housewives in the Fifties spent 42 hours a week doing general housework, plus a further 15 to 20 hours deep cleaning.

But it said Londoners now instead opt for the “quick fix” of daily tidying.

Social historian Seren Evans-Charrington, who worked on the study, said: “Now, not only are the everyday tasks like washing dishes and doing laundry done in a fraction of the time, we also share more responsibilities.”

Three quarters — 76 per cent — of the 2,000 people surveyed said they use technology to help with housework.

The kitchen was the most cleaned part of the house — on 48 per cent — ahead of the lounge on 19 per cent and the bedroom on only six per cent.
