How long pundit believes Newcastle's new owners will have to wait to see 'serious results'

Former England defender Danny Mills believes it will take 'four or five years' before Newcastle's prospective new ownership start seeing 'serious results'.

It is almost three weeks since news emerged PCP Capital Partners' takeover bid for the club had reached the Premier League's Owners and Directors' Test stage.

The bid, spearheaded by financier Amanda Staveley and also involving the Reuben brothers, Simon and David, is backed by the mega-rich Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

It is Chronicle Live's understanding the would-be owners are expecting to get the green light from the Premier League with the owner's and director's test close to its final stages.

It has led to much speculation over potential transfers and fans are excited for a new era and a potential return to European football.

However, former Leeds, Middlesbrough and Manchester City defender, Mills, believes it will take four or five years before the new regime will see 'serious results'.

“You are looking at a four or five-year plan, realistically,” he told Football Insider.

“Even if you go out and buy all of the best players it does not mean you are the best team.

“PSG have tried it but they have never managed to win the Champions League despite spending fortunes. It took Manchester City a while and it will take time to blend all of these people together to get the right balance.

“You can always be undone by a Leicester who were almost the perfect team.

“Yes, they have money but it will take five years before you start seeing serious results.”
