How long Glasgow's heavy rain will last predicted by Met Office as city faces flood warnings

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Glasgow which as of yesterday, now extends into the weekend.

According to the Met Office, a yellow weather warning means that "severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect you. Yellow means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day to day activities.

The Met Office is monitoring the developing weather situation and Yellow means keep an eye on the latest forecast and be aware that the weather may change or worsen, leading to disruption of your plans in the next few days."

The warning came into force as of midnight this morning (October 7) where it is expected to get worse up until Saturday at around lunchtime. The heavy rain, which spreads north as far as Fort William extending north-west over to Greenock, is expected to get heavier as the day progresses getting heavier around 10pm.

Tonight the rain is still set to continue well into the early hours of the morning and doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon.

According to weather forecasters, the heavy rain should settle on Saturday (October 9) around 7pm.

Light showers are then expected thereafter into at least Monday however the Met Office have predicted that the chances of rain on Monday are very low.

If you are needing to venture out, they have warned motorists to leave in plenty of time as the heavy rain and flooding may cause bus and train services to be affected.

They also warn that spray and flooding on roads could impact journey times and make them longer.

The flood warnings come as Scotland recorded its second warmest start to Autumn with temperatures of 13C whilst the UK as a whole also experienced its second warmest September in figures dating back to 1884.
