Where Leeds United's contract priorities lie this summer

After securing Marcelo Bielsa's services for another year, Leeds United are getting to work on their summer business of finalising a squad that will be able kick on from this season's third-placed finish.

Despite sitting in the automatic promotion places for most of the season, Bielsa's side's form deserted them at exactly the wrong time, as they dropped out of the top two at Easter before throwing being dumped out of the play-offs against the Rams.

As the dust begins the settle on what was an extraordinary campaign, attention will move onto the work that needs to be done this summer.

Jack Harrison celebrates scoring the opening goal with Pablo Hernandez, Luke Ayling, Tyler Roberts and Kemar Roofe. Championship - Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday - Saturday 13th April 2019 - Elland Road (Alex Dodd/CameraSport)

Leeds were holding back with contract talks for a number of players until they knew what division they would be playing in next season, so there will soon be progress here.

So which deals need looking at? And when do the key members of the squad's current contracts expire? We take a look...

2019

Izzy Brown (loan)

Jack Harrison (loan)

Harrison is set to return to City (Alex Dodd/CameraSport)

Leeds have no big names in the final year of their contracts, with just the two current loanees deals' expiring, meaning Brown will return to Chelsea and Harrison to Manchester City.

2020

Gaetano Berardi

Pablo Hernandez

Mateusz Klich (reported option for another 12 months)

Kemar Roofe

Kemar Roofe has a year left (Alex Dodd/CameraSport)

Stuart Dallas

Bailey Peacock-Farrell

Vurnon Anita

Hadi Sacko

Paudie O'Connor

Lewie Coyle

Tyler Denton

Clarke Oduor (option for another 12 months)

There is work to be done for next summer. While Hernandez will be 35 when he deal expires and likely to be considering his future, sorting Kemar Roofe's future will be a priority at the club. Other names such as Gaetano Berardi, Stuart Dallas and Bailey Peacock-Farrell have all played their part this season, while Mateusz Klich has a year extension available to the club.

The likes of Anita and Sacko are unlikely to see any new offers, while young trio O'Connor, Coyle and Denton have been playing for their futures on loan this season.

2021

Luke Ayling

Liam Cooper

Barry Douglas

Gjanni Alioski

Saiz's deal runs until 2021 (Danny Lawson/PA Wire)

Samu Saiz

Conor Shaughnessy

Kalvin Phillips

Jamie Shackleton

Eunan O'Kane

Ouasim Bouy

Caleb Ekuban

Pawel Cibicki

Jay-Roy Grot

Alfie McCalmont (option for another 12 months)

Where will Leeds be in 2021? It seems a long away, but a lot of big contracts in the mix there and Leeds will not want to let some of these deals get too near their end dates. Samu Saiz is currently on loan at Getafe and unlikely to return to the club.

2022

Adam Forshaw

Pontus Jansson

Patrick Bamford

Roberts has plenty of years left on his deal (Alex Dodd/CameraSport)

Tyler Roberts

Tom Pearce

Laurens de Bock

Yosuke Ideguchi

Robbie Gotts

Encouragingly, Leeds have some big names under contract for another four years. Forshaw, Jansson, Bamford, Roberts and Pearce should all have futures at the club, while De Bock and Ideguchi likely do not.

2023

Kiko Casilla

The January arrival signed a four-and-a-half year deal when he joined the club.
