How long could Nottinghamshire be in lockdown and when will restrictions be reviewed?

Nottinghamshire residents must stick to new regulations decided by the government as coronavirus cases rise.

Tier 2 restrictions, meaning people in the county cannot meet people outside their household or support bubble indoors, come into place today.

The latest statistics show that there were 493 positive tests in Nottingham city - where the rate has now risen to almost 900 cases per 100,000 people.

Liverpool was placed in the 'very high' alert category on Monday where "without further action, the NHS will swiftly be under intolerable pressure".

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that areas within this category will be reviewed every four weeks and nowhere will be shut down indefinitely.

But no time-limit was set for a review into places which are in 'high alert' areas like Nottinghamshire, but reports suggest that this will also be reviewed in a month.

There was a warning today that if the situation in the city does not improve, a Tier Three lockdown could be necessary in Nottingham.

Although there is no statistical threshold for which area will be placed in which category, Nottingham remains the worst affected area for coronavirus in the country.

Nottingham was not placed under the most strict rules as many of the cases are currently in young people.

Councillor David Mellen, leader of the city council, said: “The Government has left us in no doubt that they could well be imposing ‘very high’ alert levels - Tier 3 - on us if things don’t change in Nottingham, so I would appeal to the people of Nottingham, to please take these restrictions seriously.”

Leicestershire was first subject to local restrictions on June 30. At the time, local leaders were told that the rules would be reviewed by July 18, and if required, fortnightly from then on.

Reviews came on July 30 and August 7, but no changes were made. More than 100 days later, Leicester city and Oadby and Wigston still have restrictions as part of Tier 2.
