How long Celtic have to sign players before Champions League qualifying clash with Sarajevo

Celtic face Sarajevo in their opening Champions League qualifier on July 9 – and need to move quickly to make more signings.

Neil Lennon’s side take on the Bosnian champions at the Asim Ferhatovic Hase Stadium with a 6.45pm kick-off.

The manager has admitted he wants to seal further acquisitions before the tie and revealed he could bring in another centre-back during this window.

Celtic have already landed Christopher Jullien, a £7million capture from Toulouse in what is the club’s second most expensive transfer after Odsonne Edouard at £9m.

However, Lennon is also keen to add a right-back and left-back to his squad – irrespective of whether Kieran Tierney remains with the treble Treble winners.

But how long does Lennon have to make any more signings for the Sarajevo clash before the UEFA deadline?

European football’s governing body details the exact time ahead of the first-round qualifier.

They state players must be registered by 11pm on Thursday, July 4 – which is only five days before Celtic take on Sarajevo – and this deadline includes both legs.

But Lennon can still land more stars in time for the tie through the wildcard system. Club are allowed to register two new players by 11pm on the eve (which is next Monday) of the Sarajevo showdown so long as the "quota of locally-trained players is respected".

These are homegrown or academy stars.

Should Celtic progress past the Bosnian side, they would then have until 11pm on July 18 to sign further players, with the wildcard option again in play.
