How Liverpool’s Premier League title chances look after the Champions League draw

Liverpool's hopes of a maiden Premier League title this season received a significant boost from Friday afternoon's Champions League draw.

Pitted against the weakest side left in the competition in Porto, the Reds have every right to believe their European campaign won't have too much of a detrimental effect on their league aims in the short term.

Jurgen Klopp's men will contest the first leg of their tie against the Portuguese champions on Tuesday, April 9 - five days before a league meeting with Chelsea at Anfield.

Maurizio Sarri's men will have travelled to Slavia Prague for the first leg of their Europa League tie on the Thursday, meaning they should be significantly less fresh for a weekend trip to Anfield.

As for Liverpool's away leg in Porto, that comes four days prior to a visit to Cardiff City in the Premier League.

Champions League quarter-final draw: Who did the English sides get?

Neil Warnock's team will have extra rest in the build-up, but their status as relegation battlers means the Reds should not have too much to fear.

What's more, the fact their title rivals Manchester City now have the distraction of an all-English tie against Tottenham to consider is also good news.

City's fixtures around those games look tricky, and Klopp will hope dropped points in that period could see his team steal in.
