How Liverpool's European glory will be remembered in Parliament forever

While Liverpool FC have already written their names in the footballing history books - the team's European triumph will now also be remembered in Parliament.

The Reds' remarkable journey to glory in Madrid will stay in the minds and memories of fans for a very long time - but a Liverpool MP decided it was good to make a note of the Reds' success in the Houses of Parliament.

Liverpool Walton MP Dan Carden submitted what is called an Early Day Motion to Parliament, which has been signed by 12 MPs in total.

An Early Day Motion is a motion that is put down, or tabled that draws attention to particular subjects.

Mr Carden's motion states: "That this House congratulates Liverpool Football Club on its sixth European Cup title victory; applauds the club's players and those of Tottenham Hotspur for providing a competitive all-English final to Europe's most prestigious club competition; further applauds the club's manager Jurgen Klopp, staff and dedicated supporters on this magnificent and historic achievement, extending the City of Liverpool's proud footballing tradition."

The motion also commends both sets of supporters and the hosts Madrid for a 'well-spirited final' before calling on UEFA to look again at ticketing issues.

It states: "We call on UEFA to reassess ticket arrangements ahead of next year's competition and engage in meaningful dialogue with fan representatives across Europe to maximise the tickets available for loyal club supporters to enjoy watching their team play in this most exiting of fixtures."

Mr Carden's motion has been signed by shadow chancellor John McDonnell, who was born in Liverpool and is a lifelong Reds fan.

Also signing their names were fellow Merseyside MPs George Howarth, Alison McGovern, Peter Dowd, Louise Ellman and Maria Eagle.
