How Liverpool plan to put Premier League pain behind them in Champions League final

Liverpool are gunning for Champions League redemption after losing the Premier League title by one point.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds set a record for the highest points total not to win the league when their 97 was not enough to overhaul Manchester City .

But the players are determined not to finish the season empty-handed - especially after losing last season’s Champions League final - and left-back Andy Robertson reckons the title agony is huge motivation for their June 1 showdown in Madrid against Tottenham .

Robertson said: “Of course it is - we have the Champions League to play for. Everything else is forgotten about.

“In my opinion it won’t be thought of that we came second in the Premier League and all that nonsense. There is no bigger game to get yourself up for - a final against Tottenham will be incredible.

“We fell short last season so we have to make sure we don’t do that again. We know how hard it will be, but let’s look forward to it.”

Virgil van Dijk too, insisted that the chance of a trophy on has already eased the pain of the title defeat. And he warned Spurs, Liverpool will be ready.

“We have to look on the positive side and remember we are still in Madrid, hopefully we can end the season on a high. That’s what we will try to do.

“It is fantastic to be there twice in a row, hopefully we can be a little bit better this time.”
