How Liverpool decide who takes penalties when James Milner and Mohamed Salah aren't playing

Penalties are always seen as the most golden opportunity to score.

Players and goalscorers in particular will work on this element of the game to make sure they tuck away spot kicks whenever their team manages to win one.

Of course, only one player gets to take a penalty and with some of the best footballers on earth being so ambitious and adept at taking penalties it means sometimes arguments can happen over who gets to take the chance.

There has been trouble already this season at teams like Manchester United and Chelsea, who Liverpool face today, about who places the ball from 12 yards.

Blood Red: Liverpool are streets ahead of Chelsea

Fortunately for the Reds there has never been such a squabble with James Milner the designated commander and Mohamed Salah next in the pecking order.

Jurgen Klopp was asked about what would happen if neither were on the pitch and how Liverpool would stop a fallout should that be the case.

"The rule for us is Milly (James Milner) is the taker," the manager said.

"When he is not on the pitch, Mo (Salah) is the taker and so far we have had no situation when both were not on the pitch.

"We would probably think about it if both were not on the pitch but so far it’s not happened.

"We have a couple of good (other) takers.

"Very often if you don’t make a decision, it should normally be the guy who feels the best.

"The thing is the first one who takes the ball isn’t probably the guy who feels best, that is when the discussion starts.

"Never with the first guy with the ball, it always starts with the others around 'do we really feel (he should take it)'.

"Of course it can happen (arguments), we are all people, but I am not a really big fan."
