How Lionel Messi and Barcelona dressing room reacted to Liverpool loss

Barcelona's dressing room has reportedly been left fractured after they were stunned by Liverpool in midweek.

The Catalan giants saw their Champions League dreams crushed by the Reds at Anfield, letting a three-goal aggregate lead slip for the second straight year.

According to Sport , the visiting dressing room was a sombre scene as expected, in stark contrast with Liverpool's wild celebrations.

Lionel Messi, who was drug tested and did not take the team bus back to the airport as a result, is said to have barely looked at his team-mates, a reaction mirrored by Luis Suarez after he had briefly spoken to the press.

A number of players are said to have quickly showered and left the dressing room even before reporters had set up in the mixed zone.

Manager Ernesto Valverde was said to be motionless, with no dressing room inquest or team talk as the players silently considered what had just happened.

The reaction was reportedly completely different to their defiant response to a similar collapse at the quarter-final stage against Roma last year.

The defeat seemingly weakened the bond within the dressing room, with the futures of various players up in the air.

There has been a noticeable silence on social media from across the Barcelona squad as they still comprehend their Anfield horror show.

Jasper Cillessen has decided he now wants to leave the Nou Camp, with Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic in danger of failing to survive their summer rebuild.

Arthur has also fallen out of favour and some intriguing transfer business is expected as Barcelona look to freshen up their squad.
