How likely Piers Morgan will return to GMB, according to bookies

Piers Morgan is most likely to get a new slot on breakfast TV after quitting his job at GMB, according to the bookies.

Morgan quit his job hosting the ITV breakfast show on Tuesday night after more than 40,000 people complained about his comments on the Meghan Markle interview.

Morgan has refused to back down from his statements, saying he doesn't believe a word the Duchess of Sussex says.

He was criticised for doubting her statements in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The interview saw Meghan speak about her suicidal thoughts when she was in the Royal family, racism, attitudes towards Archie and her wedding.

According to OddsMonkey Piers Morgan is most likely to get a new breakfast show - he has already been linked with a possible move to two emerging TV stations.

The latest odds for Piers next move are:

Get his own morning TV show - 4/1

Get a show on Talk Radio - 9/1

Return to GMB - 10/1

Present a UK version of the "Late, Late Show" -15/1

Return as a tabloid editor - 20/1

Enter into politics - 33/1

Become the next Prime Minister - 100/1

Retire - 150/1

Peter Watton, Spokesperson at OddsMonkey, said: “I don't think anyone guessed that when Piers walked out the studio yesterday that it would be the last we would see of him on GMB.

"While that came as a bit of a shock I think we all know we haven't seen or heard the last of Mr Morgan.

"The outspoken presenter is likely to have a huge array of offers to quickly get back into work.

"His most likely destination is another TV show but the odds also suggest that he could make a return to radio and even venture into politics.

"A return to GMB hasn't been ruled out either although at this point it seems extremely unlikely with both sides unlikely to back down.”

The Duchess of Sussex formally complained to ITV about Piers Morgan before the Good Morning Britain co-host quit, PA Media understands.

Morgan left the breakfast show after an on-air row with a colleague who criticised him for “continuing to trash” the duchess, after he said earlier this week he “didn’t believe a word” of her Oprah Winfrey interview.

PA Media understands the duchess’s concern was not about the personal attacks on the validity of her racism allegation made against the royal family, or her claims she was not supported by the institution when experiencing suicidal thoughts, but how Morgan’s comments may affect the issue of mental health generally and those attempting to deal with their own problems.

Morgan has labelled the Duchess of Sussex’s comments in her interview with Oprah Winfrey as “contemptible”, following his abrupt departure from Good Morning Britain.

The presenter left the ITV morning show following a backlash against his comments about Meghan and her headline-making interview, but said it was an “amicable” departure and that he and the broadcaster “agreed to disagree”.

The broadcaster’s chief executive, Dame Carolyn McCall, said on Tuesday that Kevin Lygo, their managing director of media and entertainment, had been in discussion with Morgan regarding his coverage of the Harry and Meghan interview, adding that she believed what the duchess had said to Winfrey, saying: “It’s important everyone does”.

Speaking outside his London home on Wednesday morning, the presenter described his departure from the programme as “amicable”, adding: “I had a good chat with ITV and we agreed to disagree.

“I’m just going to take it easy and see how we go.

“I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion.

Who could replace Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain?

“If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that’s entirely their right.

“I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.

“If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly-held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it.”

The TV presenter added: “I think it’s fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they’ve cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge.

“I would call it a temporary hibernation.”

He said that he is “always in talks with people”.

Asked what he would say to his Good Morning Britain colleague, Alex Beresford, with whom he had a heated debate during Tuesday’s show, Morgan said: “Good luck to him.”

His comments followed an earlier tweet in which he said he still does not believe what Meghan said to the US chat show host.

He tweeted: “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview.

“I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t.

“If you did, OK.

“Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.

“Thanks for all the love, and hate.

“I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”
