How lightning could strike twice when West Ham visit the new Spurs stadium

West Ham the chance to make lightning strike twice this weekend when they travel to north London to take on bitter rivals Spurs in their penultimate away game of the season.

It'll be the first time that the Hammers will have travelled to Spurs' shiny and new £1bn arena in the north of the capital and they will be going to a ground where Mauricio Pochettino's side have yet to lose or even concede a goal in four games at their new digs.

So West Ham could well be the first team to not only win at the 62,062 seater behemoth but also be the first team to stick one in the onion bag past Hugo Lloris.

The Hammers have previous when they have travelled to new stadiums as well to inflict a first defeat...

The radical tactical change Manuel Pellegrini could use when West Ham face Spurs

The last time they did that, they went to the Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal, way back in 2007 after the Gunners had upped sticks from their spiritual Highbury home and moved to the far more palatial surroundings of Ashburton Grove just up the road.

West Ham rocked up there in April 2007 and beat the Gunners 1-0 courtesy of Bobby Zamora's goal and an inspired performance in goal from Rob Green to keep Arsenal at bay and the Hammers were the first visiting team to go to the Emirates and win - 23 teams had previously tried and failed to pick up three points there.

Not only that, West Ham were also the last team to beat Arsenal at Highbury before the Gunners left.

West Ham's team that day was Green, Lucas Neill, James Collins, Anton Ferdinand, George McCartney (Jonathan Spector, 46), Lee Bowyer, Nigel Reo-Coker, Mark Noble, Matt Etherington, Carlos Tevez (Kepa Blanco, 82) and Zamora (Luis Boa Morte, 65).

The Hammers don't have much to play for with the remaining three games of the season to go other than to simply finish well. Being the first team to win at the new ground against their rivals will go down very well indeed.
