How Leeds United supporters can raise money for charity whilst backing Marcelo Bielsa's team

A new way for Leeds United supporters to raise money for good causes has been introduced this season.

The better Marcelo Bielsa’s team does, the more money will be raised for the Leeds United Foundation's various programmes, which currently help more than 35,000 disadvantaged individuals in and around Leeds.

The ‘Goal Giving’ initiative gets fans to pledge money on different outcomes, with money raised for charity every time they happen.

Leeds fans can choose the amount pledged (anything from £1) and what they’re backing at Goalgiving.com.

At present, there are four options available to back: a donation every time Leeds keep a clean sheet, a donation every time Leeds win, and a choice between backing striker Patrick Bamford and marquee summer signing Helder Costa to score goals.

“This is a great way to engage supporters in our fundraising activities” said Alan Scorfield, CEO of the Leeds United foundation.

"It creates a conversation, keeps the donations topical and ensures fans can be a part of what we do every day."

After the first two games of the new Championship season, the initiative raised over £100, with a Leeds United win the most popular option.

‘Goalgivers’ also get the chance to win rewards, including personal e-mails and video messages from the players involved, while the biggest pledgers will get an invite to attend a training ground event at the end of the season.

“We’re all bombarded with charity requests but most of us can afford to give a little more to those who are more disadvantaged - we just need an extra nudge and what better nudge than a Leeds win,” said co-founder Oliver Latham.

“So this is a way to encourage us all to say, 'do you know what, I'd be happy to make a donation every time Leeds score or win or keep a clean sheet.’

“Every week the cumulative amount pledged for each goal or each win will grow as more fans sign up, a great example of everyone marching on together.”
