How Leeds United’s opening fixtures compare to Premier League rivals

Leeds United can now step up their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season after the fixture list was revealed on Thursday.

The Whites return to the top division for the first time in 16 years after a memorable Championship season in which they were crowned as Champions.

The team’s reward for the success is to face the biggest and best teams in the country including the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea.

Leeds will be looking to get off to a positive start in the league but could be at a slight disadvantage to some of their rivals for the first eight games of the campaign.

Leeds United Premier League fixtures

The Whites have one of the toughest starts to the Premier League season, on paper at least.

United’s opening eight games - which takes them to the second international break - are against Liverpool, Fulham, Sheffield United, Manchester City, Wolves, Aston Villa, Leicester, and Crystal Palace.

Those sides had an average finishing league position of 9.4 between them.

Only West Ham (7.8), Arsenal (9.1) and Man City (also 9.1) face opponents with a higher average than Leeds over that period.

Fellow promoted side Fulham has the easiest opening set of fixtures on paper.

Their opponents had an average finishing league position of 13.5 last season.

Tottenham have the next easiest start (12.4) followed by Wolves (12.1), Leicester (12.1) and Southampton (11.9).

Aston Villa, Burnley, Manchester City, Manchester United have only had seven games counted as their opening weekend matches have been postponed. All other clubs have eight matches.

As with the end of last season, the campaign will also start with no fans in the stadium to roar the team on.

But it is hoped that at least some fans will be able to attend from October.
