How Leeds United have responded to defeat under Marcelo Bielsa this season

Leeds United suffered another blow in their quest to reach the Premier League but the question on everyone’s lips is, how will they fare against Brentford?

Friday’s 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic has handed the initiative to Sheffield United, who moved above them with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest earlier in the season.

The Blades made the short trip across Yorkshire to the KCOM Stadium to take on Hull City on Monday, whilst Leeds are in action against Brentford at Griffin Park.

With just three games remaining, only goal difference separates the two Yorkshire rivals in the race for top-flight football.

The season has taken a ridiculous number of twists and turns and Whites’ supporters will be praying for one more in their sides’ favour.

Marcelo Bielsa's team have lost 11 games this season in the league, but after a defeat, how have they responded?

We crunched the numbers ahead of Monday’s trip to Griffin Park.

The stats underline the relentless nature of Bielsa’s sides.

Leeds United have only lost back-to-back games once this season, which came back in December. After a disappointing home defeat to Hull City, the Whites lost to Nottingham Forest, three days later. The immediacy of the two games probably had a part to play, given it’s the only time that has happened this campaign.

The number show us the incredible bounce-back ability of Bielsa’s team. United have won SEVEN of their following ten matches after a defeat, which bodes well ahead of Monday’s clash. They have also drawn on two occasions, which came in tough away matches with Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough.

After a defeat, we have so often seen the Whites send out a statement of intent. The 4-0 thumping of West Brom particularly sticks in the mind, after a disappointing midweek defeat to Queens Park Rangers.

The emphatic nature of that win sums up what the Argentine Chief’s side are all about. High intensity, high energy and most importantly, free-flowing football. When things aren’t quite ticking, it can leave them vulnerable but as the stats show, lightning doesn’t often strike twice in quick succession.
