Leeds Festival has issued an update about this year’s event following the coronavirus outbreak.

The spread of COVID-19 across the UK has been well-documented with talk of big events possibly being postponed.

As of the last count, there were 319 UK cases of the virus and five deaths. There are five cases in Leeds, one in Ilkley and two in Barnsley. There are 12 overall in Yorkshire.

Leeds Festival 2020, and its sister event in Reading, are currently scheduled to take place on the bank holiday weekend of August 28 and 30 with headline performances booked from Liam Gallagher, Rage Against The Machine and Stormzy.

Organisers have given an update to ticketholders following the Coronavirus spread.

A spokesperson said: “At this time, Leeds Festival is still going ahead as planned. Please be assured that the safety and health of all staff and visitors, is our main priority and we are implementing recommendations and instructions appropriately.

“We are closely monitoring official guidance from the World Health Organisation, Public Health England, UK Government, local public health authorities and are working with event promoters and organisers as information evolves.

“If you are attending, please follow the most up to date information on the Coronavirus that is available from the World Health Organisation, UK Government, Public Health England and NHS.”

We’ll keep you updated with the impact Coronavirus is having on events in Leeds and across Yorkshire.
