How League One is predicted to finish as Sunderland march on in 2020

Sunderland's change in fortunes in 2020 has been nothing short of dramatic.

After floundering as low as 15th at one stage before Christmas, Phil Parkinson has seen an overturn in form which has propelled the Black Cats back up the League One table.

It's becoming incredibly tight at the top, with Sunderland just three points off league leaders Rotherham, and just six points covering the top eight positions.

The stats experts at FiveThirtyEight have produced their latest predictions for the how the table will look come the end of the season - and at the minute it's set for the 'thrills' of the play-offs for the Black Cats.

They predict Sunderland will finish just one point behind Rotherham in top spot . . . but lose out on the second automatic place to Coventry on goal difference.

That would leave Parkinson's men to face Ipswich Town in a two-legged play-off semi-final, with the winners facing either Portsmouth or Peterborough at Wembley.

While it's all based on predictions, it does underline just how big Sunderland's game at Coventry on March 1 is.
