How L’Equipe rated Celtic players v Rennes and their miserable verdict on Odsonne Edouard

Damn, those lads at L’Equipe aren’t easily impressed.

The French outlet’s player ratings are notoriously low and Odsonne Edouard will know this.

Still, even he’d have got a shock if he had seen their marks following the Europa League clash in Brittany on Thursday evening.

L’Equipe rated Celtic higher than Rennes after the Scottish champions put in a fine performance to leave France with a valuable point that keeps them bang in the Group E mix.

But Edouard, who for once didn’t quite live up to his big-game reputation, failed to catch the eye of his compatriots in their ratings.

The France U21 striker received just a three and even though L’Equipe rarely if ever dish out eights and nines, it’s a low mark.

In fact, Edouard was awarded the second lowest behind Rennes winger Flavien Tait who received just a two.

However, they clearly liked the look of Fraser Forster, Christopher Jullien, James Forrest and Ryan Christie who all were given sixes.

Record Sport’s Michael Gannon was far more generous, doling out eights for Jullien, McGregor and Christie. Forster, Hatem Abd Elhamed, Kristoffer Ajer, Scott Brown and Forrest all received sevens.

Michael, meanwhile, also gave Edouard a seven, saying: "He looked in the mood to make an impression in his homeland but too keen to hit the deck when he picked up a first-half booking for diving."

Back in the land of L’Equipe, Neil Lennon received a six – two higher than his rival in the Rennes dugout, Julien Stephan.

Celtic’s average score was 4.7 while the Ligue 1 side’s mean stood at 4.5.
