How Kyler Murray entering the draft helps the Vikings

Kyler Murray made the decision to enter the NFL draft, even though he was the ninth-overall pick in the MLB Draft.

The former Sooners slinger is a dual-threat quarterback who threw for 37 touchdowns last season, while adding another 11 on the ground.

He’s a quarterback and the Vikings aren’t in the market for a quarterback. So why mention him on this site?

In Luke Easterling’s latest mock draft over at Draft Wire, he has Murray going 10th overall.

The Vikings draft 18th overall and will almost certainly be targeting an offensive lineman. With Murray entering the draft, it enhances the chance of an offensive lineman falling down to the Vikings. And if Murray falls, somehow to No. 18, the Vikings could be offered a king’s ransom from a team for the opportunity to draft him.

A lot has to play out between now and then, but ideally for the Vikings, Murray will project as a mid to late first-round pick after the Combine.
