How Kate nearly never met Prince William because she 'almost moved to Edinburgh'

Kate Middleton and Prince William almost never met, because the future Duchess was originally going to attend Edinburgh University it has been revealed.

Kate met Prince William, who is second in line to the throne, in 2001 when they became friends while living at St Salvator's Hall of Residence in their first year studying at St Andrew's University in Fife.

But the royal couple may have never crossed paths if Kate had taken up her original place at Edinburgh University instead, reports HELLO!

Jasper Selwyn who was the careers advisor at Kate's boarding school in England revealed that Kate was accepted at Edinburgh University first, but decided not to go at the last minute in favour of a gap year.

The future Duchess happened to take a year out at the same time as Prince William who spent some of his gap year volunteering with the charity Raleigh International where he taught English and helped build walkways in a mountain village in Chile.

While Kate was on her Gap year she applied for a place to study Art at the University of St Andrews where Prince William was known to be studying after his year of travels.

Coincidentally the pair are understood to have just missed each over during their gap year as Kate studied at the British Institute of Florence in Italy before also heading to volunteer at the programme in Chile just weeks after her future husband.

When they returned to education, they both met as freshers at the University of St Andrews after being allocated rooms near to each other in St Salvators Hall of Residence.

Their friendship turned to romance over the years and on April 29 2011, William and Kate were married at Westminster Abbey.

They now have three children together: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis and Prince George third in line to the throne.
