How Jurgen Klopp signing Thiago Alcantara has proved Liverpool doubters wrong

Jurgen Klopp has managed to pull off a masterstroke signing both Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota without upsetting the status quo.

That's the opinion of Gary Neville, who reckons Thiago is a "signal of intent" and Jota a "clever signing" by the Liverpool boss.

Reds manager Klopp went into the summer knowing he wouldn't have huge funs to spend in the transfer window due to the impact of coronavirus.

But Liverpool managed to get a handful of deals over the line, including bringing in Champions League winner Thiago and the highly-rated Jota.

Klopp has previously been warned that bringing in new recruits may upset the finely-tuned apple cart at Liverpool.

Former Reds midfielder John Barnes even suggested Thiago could be a risky signing.

"With the midfield being very workmanlike, they are a lot of points better off than everybody else," said Barnes. "The reason you can have two full-backs attacking at the same time and three strikers is because they have three hard-working midfielders to protect that situation.

"If you get another creative midfielder and you want your full-backs and front three to attack, then maybe you are going to concede more goals."

But Klopp has proved he has been able to bring in new recruits without any problems, as Thiago has hit the ground running at Anfield.

Praising Klopp on a shrewd bit of business, Neville said on Sky Sports: "The signings of Thiago and Diogo Jota were big moves because it signalled intent.

"They needed to strengthen in midfield then Jota up front, who provides a real quality back up to the front three but doesn't unnerve them. It was a clever signing."
