How Jose Mourinho will change Tottenham's transfer window plans

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes that Jose Mourinho will have transformed Daniel Levy's thinking ahead of the January transfer window.

Previous boss Mauricio Pochettino was restricted by a minimal transfer spending approach during his time at the club, which famously included a 2018/19 campaign with no recruits.

But Mourinho has enjoyed lavishing spending in previous managerial positions at Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Bent, therefore, believes Mourinho is destined to spend big at Spurs, something he believes would have been a prerequisite to joining the club.

Champions League: Who did English clubs draw in the last 16?

"To get someone of Mourinho's standing, Daniel Levy would have had to promise to open up the wallet," Bent, who was speaking on behalf of GentingBet, told football.london.

"Mourinho has always spent money and he would have had assurances that he will be able to strengthen the squad in January. They will have known that."

Spurs have turned a corner since Mourinho took over from Pochettino and now sit fifth in the Premier League. Bent explains that this is only a snapshot of what's to come.

"He has accumulated a lot of points in a short space of time and I expected no less from someone like him," Bent added.

"We know what he can do and his pedigree speaks for itself. They should thank their lucky stars that they got him.

"Now it's about doing what he does best and that's winning trophies. Can he do that at Spurs? I really do think he can."
