Jose Mourinho has responded after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to rub his head at full-time in Mancehster United's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
It was the Portuguese's first loss since taking charge at Spurs in his first visit back to his old stomping ground as an opposition manager since his dismissal by the former English champions last season.
After the final whistle, his successor in the United hot seat offered him a handshake before going to rub his head in a move that fans were quick to notice on social media.
However, not to let the gesture go unanswered, Mourinho was seen to respond to the Norwegian in the tunnel after leaving the pitch.
It appeared that the Spurs boss had decided to return the favour with his own touching of Solskjaer's head as they exchanged words.
Speaking to Amazon Prime in his interview after leaving the pitch, the United boss was asked about the incident.
"No one likes to lose the game," he said. "But we are all the same, we just want to win games."
Mourinho had won three out of his first three games as Tottenham boss before taking on United but he has now conceded a total of eight goals in four matches since taking charge at Spurs.
That defensive record stands in stark contrast to the security with which his team's usually tend to play at the back.
However, Spurs are now back in contention to win back access to European competitions for next season, even if their defeat at Old Trafford came as a setback to their ambitions.
It is on Mourinho to try and secure Champions League for next season as the successor to Mauricio Pochettino.
Despite guiding Spurs to the final of the competition last season, losing out to Liverpool in Madrid, he was sacked in November after falling to 14th in the Premier League table.
Tottenham need to continue to qualift and compete in the Champions League if they are to bridge the financial gap with their richer top six rivals.
